Howdie.
I've had a lot of hurdles because one team mate vanished (probably because of the ghey) so I had to eat up and absorb his work and redesign the whole thing. I also had to go back and change up the script as a result since this game was heavily centered around the battles ... I guess now it plays more like a typical JRPG.
Another problem I had that I wasn't aware of was ... well, not a lot of people like the relationship between A&A. I am not familiar with, um, anime communities so I didn't foresee the "passion" in the series. Haha ... I guess I am pulling my hair a bit because I get trash from my friends who don't understand why I am working on this! And now from fans who don't like the re-imagining of it.
I guess this game is borderline AU. It's different enough to be its own story (even though I think it keeps most of the characterizations pretty faithfully), but familiar enough to be under Hetalia. There were a lot of reasons why the concept was changed. I explained it already, but I'll do it again. First off, if they were direct personifications, Arthur and Francis could just kill anyone and they couldn't be in your party. Secondly, I wanted to immerse players in the world, so it was nicer to observe things from a third-person perspective. Lastly, I guess I wanted to make the game more detailed with its history.
I think one thing that people need to understand about this game is that Arthur leaves for decades (perhaps 50 years?) and the two are not related here. There's an important reason for it. Most of their bonding comes from the French-Indian War, not Alfred's childhood. If it bothers so many people, just ... don't play it. X_X At one point, I was so frustrated with the two parties, I started wondering why bother at all. Though I care too much about this to really quit! I just felt kind of shocked.
I am adding a section below for Historical Figures. It will expand when I have the time to write more. >_<
